The many delightful faces of a Spinach salad

spinach salad

We all know that Popeye the Sailor Man thrived on spinach. When a crisis arose, out came that can of spinach to fortify him and win the day. It's not clear how many kids of his day were convinced to join him.

However unappealing that meal appeared, the virtues of spinach are many. Fresh spinach is full of iron and a bevy of vitamins, many of them antioxidants. Antioxidants are now known to help prevent cancer and the plentiful B vitamins help build muscle strength. Selenium, an important trace mineral and cancer fighter, rounds out the list of laudable nutrients found in spinach.

Nutritional qualities aside, properly prepared spinach is delicious. One of the most delectable meals to be made of this green powerhouse is the spinach salad. If you've never tried one, you're in for a treat.

Begin by washing your spinach thoroughly. Use a sink full of icy cold water. This keeps the leaves crisp. Swish the leaves, by handfuls, around in the water to remove any sand clinging to the leaves. Repeat this process several times with fresh water, gently rubbing the leaves as you go, until the water is absolutely clear. If you wish, you can pinch off the stems of the leaves. Pat the leaves gently between paper towels or a clean dish towel to remove excess water. Don't bruise the leaves. You want nice crisp leaves for your spinach salad creation.

Fresh spinach has a nice bite to it, somewhat like an al dente version of vegetables. The taste is very slightly, but quite pleasantly, bitter. The flavor is fulsome and might be described as a refreshing palate teaser. Spinach always plays the starring role in any spinach salad. There are many accent ingredients which go well with spinach, but these ingredients are the supporting cast in this vegetable production.

Now it's time to dress your salad. Choose from this lineup as your tastebuds fancy. Although there are traditional combinations, feel free to experiment. Perhaps most important to the successful spinach salad is that all of the ingredients be of the best quality.

Freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano shavings, dusted across the top of any spinach salad, are absolutely delightful. A few marinated artichoke hearts serve as counterpoint to the crunchy spinach leaves. The olive oil adds flavor, while the artichoke hearts add zest and texture. Diced, cooked bacon or pancetta sprinkled lightly across the salad is also delicious. Peeled, seeded and diced cucumber provides a good taste contrast. Diced onion and minced garlic are good with all of these other candidates.

Now you have a generic basic spinach salad recipe. The salad can be of whatever size your appetite requires. By the way, a spinach salad is an excellent choice for those with New Year's weight loss resolutions! To your health!

Detoxification diets

detoxification diets

People get involved in detoxification diet are all kinds of different reasons. A lot of people think of them as a spiritual thing as much as a physical thing. Other people do it to lose weight. Some people are even doing it because they want to defeat chronic conditions which haven't been effectively treated by medicine. Whatever the reason, a detox diet can work wonders for your health, but only if you go about it right. If you go on detoxification diets without giving them careful thought and planning, or without consulting your doctor, they can do more harm than good. It is a powerful tool, and as with all powerful tools, it has to be used with caution.

The simplest detoxification diets involve no food at all. You should never diet without drinking liquids, but you can fast for quite a while on water alone. People go for three days, five days, or even up to two weeks on water only detox diets. This has some advantages and some disadvantages. One of the advantages, strangely enough, is that it is the easiest detox diet plan to follow. If you are on a juice only detoxification diet, it is hard to resist the lure of more substantial food. The juice that you drink during these kinds of detoxification diets just whets your appetite, making you crave more. With a total fast, however, after a day or two you stop being hungry. Your energy drops a lot, but at least it isn't hard to continue to refrain from eating.

Of course, many people recommend using a more specialized program than the water only diet. Juice diets have a lot of advantages to them. Of all the detoxification diets, they are probably the easiest to function on. Juice provides enough sugar and nutrients to keep your energy up, and even to provide a fair amount of sustenance. You can lose weight quicker too, because the juice keeps your metabolism from slowing down too much.

Of course, there are more extreme measures you can undergo. Colon cleansing diets have become pretty popular in this country. Although some doctors dispute their effectiveness, other people swear by them. Basically, they put the detox in detox diet. The whole point is to clear everything out of your colon and digestive tract. This can be exceedingly unpleasant, but many people swear by it. Some people even believe it has miraculous curing powers. I haven't had the stomach to try personally. If you give it a shot, won't you tell me how it works?

Lose wieght diet

lose wieght diet

Times are rough! Okay, maybe that's a bit over-dramatic. Times are rough for some people, and not so much for others. I suppose overall we currently reside in a pretty wonderful world. However, those who're constantly struggling with their weight may not see things the same way. In fact, many of these individuals are down-right depressed. Maybe they have difficulty sticking to a diet, or they simply love food a little too much. Well, the cold, harsh truth is that a REAL lose wieght diet consists of routine and will power. You have to adopt proper eating habits and conform to a strict exercise regimen. This is the best route to take if you truly want results. You must stick to the program!

When people mention the phrase "lose wieght diet," what comes to mind? I generally picture low-fat, low-sugar, low-sodium foods with plenty of nutrients, along with a consistent workout program. And let's not forget plenty of water and rest. These are the bare essentials folks. These are the key ingredients for any effective lose wieght diet. You must change your eating habits and stay strong. I always hear people say "But what if I work out four days a week and just keep eating like I do?" Hmm, this is unlikely to be effective for someone overweight. You must also change your poor eating habits in order to shed pounds of fat. You may not gain any additional weight since you're working out routinely, but you may not lose anything either. It's sort of a stagnant position. My guess is you really want to lose a specific number of pounds. Most people do. Ask them and they'll tell you. My spouse is a perfect example. She wants to drop 10 pounds. Maybe she believes that 10 pounds is what's keeping her from an ideal size and weight. Either way, she needs a serious lose wieght diet to accomplish her weight loss goal. And the same goes for you as well.

Losing weight is never fun. The majority of us hate to even have to grapple with our weights. It's a pesky annoyance that comes with life and aging. Now, if you're serious about dropping pounds and getting results, remember what must be focused on. Eating right, fish, poultry, vegetables, fruits and water; exercising regularly, 4-5 days a week, mostly cardio to start; and sticking to your program. Soon you will reach that desired weight you're after.

Atkins weight loss

atkins weight loss

Although I had heard a lot of information about low carb weight loss, I was still quite skeptical, to say the least. Atkins weight loss simply sounded too good to be true. I had a friend who was on the Atkins meal plan, and although I didn't get to see him frequently since he lived across country, he claimed that the results were stunning and spectacular. Through the Atkins diet plan, he said, he had lost 10 pounds in just over a week. It was hard for me to believe that that was true. Furthermore, it was hard for me to believe that it was healthy. The Atkins meal plan involves eating nothing but high protein food, and small helpings of non-starchy vegetables. There is no way that this is good for the body!

Nonetheless, I was desperate. Spring was fast approaching, and I knew I wouldn't look good in my bathing suit. I decided the Atkins weight loss was my best bet. It was the only way I would look and feel my best in time for lounging on the beach. When I first started the weight loss Atkins plan, it was a lot of fun. After all, who doesn't want to sit there all day and gorge on fatty foods? Soon, however, I started to really yearn for something healthy. You really cannot stick with that plan for very long without starting to miss fresh fruits and vegetables. Your body starts to feel gross after a few days of nothing but meat, and you long for a nice healthy salad.

I decided to stick with it for a little bit longer. After all, I had spent all the money on the Atkins advantage bars, the meal plan, and the Atkins weight loss book, so it seemed like I should at least give it a fair try. Wouldn't you know it, I started losing weight by the fourth day! It was amazing how quickly the pounds dropped off. I didn't know the science behind it, but I didn't really care. All I knew was that I would be slim in no time with the Atkins meal plan.

I know the Atkins weight loss is unhealthy, but few fad diets are. You see, it isn't meant to be a permanent solution. It is just something that you should do until you can get your weight under control. Then you can switch to a normal diet and watch what you eat.

Atkins shakes

atkins shakes

Any type of diet plan has something that is made just to help you out. Though there are not a lot of things made for some, you may find many companies want to sell you something that falls within the guidelines of what you should have and what you should skip. If you are doing the Atkins plan, you may know about the Atkins shakes that you can find in almost any store where you normally shop for your foods. Though this diet plan is all about eating the right carbs in a more natural form, the shakes can help you out when that is not possible.

Before you run out and get the Atkins shakes, you should think about where you are in the diet. There are some that say these shakes have stopped their progress because they tried them too early in the diet. You want to wait at least six months before you try them, because some of the ingredients might not mesh with the rung of the diet you are on. Look through the ingredients to be sure everything contained within the Atkins shakes is legal for your stage of your dieting and your diet plan.

Once you know you are safe to have the Atkins shakes, you should be careful how you use them. Choose the ones that look most appealing to you, and then add them to your diet plan very slowly. This means you want to try having two or three a week at the most at first to be sure they do not stall out your weight loss. Once you know they are not going to affect you, you can slowly work your way up to having one a day if you wish, but don't always use them for substitutes for the good foods you should be eating.

The Atkins shakes are great when you are away from home, and making an Atkins friendly meal is simply out of the question. When you travel, it can be hard to find something you can have when you are going in and out of convenience stores to find something to eat. If you have a few Atkins shakes with you when you travel, you know you have something that agrees with your diet plan no matter where you end up. You can also use them for snacks at work, or even when you need something at night. Just remember to allow them to work with your diet, and don't replace good meals more often than you should.

Atkins meal plans

atkins meal plans

When trying to lose weight, there are many mistakes that people make. One is thinking you can go on a plan only to drop it and go back to old eating habits after the excess weight is gone. This usually leads to the weight coming right back on. There are a few different programs out there that are meant to be lifelong plans to help keep you in shape once you are done. The Atkins plan is one of them, though there are other good ones from which to choose. If you have chosen to go with Atkins, you should take some time each week to find some Atkins meal plans to help get you thought the week.

When you first start Atkins, it is important to follow the program as suggested if you want it to work. It might seem very limited at first, but when you finish going through the preliminary part of the diet, you end up with a very well balanced diet that eliminates only the foods that have a bad effect on your blood sugar. You will eat bread again, but you will have to eat a different type of bread. The Atkins meal plans you choose will be much like a healthy diet of another kind, but you do get there in a different way.

What can be hard is finding Atkins meal plans that works well for you and your family. It can be easier to stick to the rules when you first start, but after awhile, you may find you are getting lax. It can be hard to follow, and that means you might need a little help. There is nothing wrong with help, and certainly finding Atkins meal plans already done up for you is something that is going to make things easier for you and will help you stay on track.

You can find great Atkins meal plans by looking online. The Atkins site has them, but many others have put some together that might be more in line with the original diet that worked for so many. There are going to be foods you don't like, and that means you will have to tweak your Atkins meal plans to tailor what you can eat, but you shouldn't have a hard time doing that. You might even try finding more than one plan or week of recipes, and then taking from each of them to make up your own. That way you are getting foods that fall within the guidelines of the diet, but you also are getting what you love to eat.

People diet for two reasons, 1) to lose weight, and 2) to improve overall health or both. Diet is often a scary word because diet usually means deprivation, but there is a healthier and easier alternative that doesn't deprive you of the foods you love to eat, the low carbohydrate diet. Atkins bars

atkins bars

Most people on the Atkins eating plan think about trying the Atkins bars. Though these have their place in the diet, they should be used with caution. The Atkins company is no longer run by Dr. Atkins, as he has passed on, and some of the changes they have made do not necessarily reflect his idea of what this eating plan is all about. It is a personal decision of course, but those wondering about them in the early stages of the plan may want to hold off.

During the induction period of the diet, and through most of the ongoing weight loss rungs, these are not going to help much. They have too many ingredients that are not quite legal in the eating plan yet. Those who eat the Atkins bars too early may notice they have stalled and are not losing weight. They may not think it is the bar because it has the Atkins name on it, but this has been a problem for many who have found that they stopped losing. Once they stopped eating the bars, they started dropping weight again.

However, once a dieter has gone through most of the rungs and is eating a higher number of more diverse carbohydrates, they may find a great place in the eating plan for the Atkins bars. One great feature of Atkins is that most on the plan will lose most of their appetite, and that is part of the secret of why it works. The Atkins bar might be something that would make a great breakfast or even lunch for those who simply don't feel like eating, but know they should be eating something. They should only do so once they have been on the plan for a while though, and they should watch how they feel after eating one.

Atkins bars are not a no-no, and they certainly have a place in this eating plan, but a person should use caution. Try them one or two days for one week to be sure they agree with your body, and then add more in if you like. It might be tempting to try them early on, but anyone hoping to succeed should give it a few months before they try them to be sure their system is ready to handle them without adverse affects to their eating plan. When it comes to finding something simple and easy, the Atkins bars are great when appropriate.

Junk food

junk food

I grew up in the generation of junk food - eating anything and everything unhealthy for me. I turned out fine. I'm incredibly healthy, despite the fact that I practically survived on candy bars and potato chips. Nowadays, there's a major obesity problem going on in the world and everyone wants to point fingers at junk food at being the culprit. I tend to disagree with that. Sure, there is way too much junk food being marketed in today's society. There's too much fat and calories in all of the food we're eating. Fast food restaurants are adjusting their trans fat and the way their foods are prepared and made. While that makes some people happy, people aren't realizing that some of the blame needs to be placed on parents and on people themselves.

The fact is, when you have a tendency and habit to shove junk food in your mouth, you will tend to gain weight. It doesn't take a genius to figure this logic out. Parents let their children overeat junk food. I've seen parents let their kids eat lots of unhealthy food and then expect their child to eat a healthy dinner. That doesn't happen.

Eating junk food can be healthy and normal - if it is kept to certain restrictions and levels. Letting your child survive on cookies and candy isn't going to result in anything but higher dentist bills and larger clothing. But, giving your kids healthy meals and allowing junk food as in-between snacks isn't anything horrible, provided it isn't in excess. Giving your child a handful of Oreo cookies isn't terrible but allowing them to eat as many as they want can be rather unhealthy.

Kids today, as well as adults, use food as a method of soothing themselves. I will include myself in that statement. When I'm depressed or hating the world, I find myself reaching for a candy bar or a bowl of ice cream. Is that healthy? No. Does it taste good? Absolutely. So, how do we solve this issue? I've recognized the fact that I utilize junk food in this manner.

While I'm not unhealthy, I'm not exactly getting any skinnier in my years. So, I have tried to find junk food that has fewer calories, reduced fat or seems to be less detrimental to me. Instead of ice cream, I might look for frozen yogurt. I've tried to buy crackers with less fat. I'm not sure if I can credit some of my weight loss to eating junk foods that seem to be less evil, or if I need to credit the fact that I'm more aware of what I eat. But, if you can prevent some calories or trans fat from entering your body, that's a positive thing. Even better, if your children see you eater snacks and junk food that has less fat and calories, they will follow your lead. Of course, they have to follow your lead if that's all that is in the house for them to munch on.

You don't need to give up the junk food that tastes incredibly good, you just need to be more conscious about the junk food and make wiser choices.

Fresh fruit

fresh fruit

There are some families that are desert families and some that are not. Mine was definitely a desert family. Growing up, we enjoyed the most sumptuous and extravagant sweets with our dinners. Whether we were going out or staying in, we would have cake, ice cream, truffles, tarts, or some other delicious treat at the end of the meal. Even if we were eating something basic like meatloaf or grilled chicken, dinner was not thought of as complete until we had something to counter the otherwise healthy meal. I would not say that we were hugely obese people, but we were definitely overweight. After all, even if you are otherwise eating healthy food, all those sweets can add up after a while. And add up they did!

When I moved out on my own and wanted to lose some weight, my solution was to cut out sweets entirely. I hated not having something sweet after dinner, but I didn't see any other way to do it. I would eat no sweets until my willpower gave out, then binge. I don't know why fresh fruit didn't occur to me as an option earlier, but it didn't. Once it did, however, it revolutionized my eating habits.

My parents would cook with fresh fruits, but they would never use them for dessert when I was growing up. Then one day, I received a fresh fruit basket from a friend. It was filled with fresh citrus fruit from Florida: oranges, lemons, and pomegranates. A lot of people scoff when they get fresh fruit baskets. They consider them to be a mediocre and uninspired gift. I reacted much differently. I was overjoyed to be getting all those fresh fruits. I practically ate myself sick!

A lot of people talk about the problems of eating too much fresh fruit. Supposedly, raw sugars are not much better for you than processed ones, and you can gain weight from eating fresh fruit almost as easily as from eating chocolate cake. This opinion is rubbish. If you eat your fruit fresh, you get the fiber, vitamins, and minerals that are incorporated into these natural foods, without the fats and carbohydrates that typical deserts are filled with. Yes it is possible to eat too much fresh fruit, but you can eat too much of anything! The bottom line is, fresh fruits are a great way to enjoy a little taste of something sweet without compromising your diet.

Does the atkins diet work

does the atkins diet work

The people in America are becoming more obsessed with weight and dieting. We are also getting heavier than any other time in the nations history. There are diets, surgeries and supplements that are geared towards helping people lose weight, but most of them fail to get people to address the true issue of looking at how they need to change their lifestyle to keep the weight off.

My husband and I decided that we needed to address our weight. We were both carrying more weight than we needed to be. Friends of ours were on the low carbohydrates diet, and had lost weight quickly, but our question was does the atkins diet work in keeping the weight off. We decided that we would research this and other diets to see what we would be able to fit into our lives the easiest. We knew that the plan had to be easy to follow and flexible in order for us to stay on it. We knew that most diets would give you results if followed faithfully, yet we were concerned about what happens in the long term.

My husband had me look into low carb dieting to know does the atkins diet work and he was going to look into lower fat dieting. In a way asking the question does Atkins diet work seemed silly considering that the number of people that were following some form of it was growing on a national level. Restaurants and fast food chains were changing their menus to accommodate the number of people that were looking for foods that were lower in carbohydrates. Due to the number of people that are following the Atkins diet it was easy to find information on it.

After doing research on does the atkins diet work I found that the entire process is dedicated to changing your eating habits for a life time. The strict low carbohydrate intake is used to drop weight, but then a full regiment for adding some healthy carbs back into the diet is outlined in the books and other materials that are available. The goal is to add enough carbohydrates back into your daily routine to satisfy your hunger and cravings, without over doing to the point of gaining weight back. The consistent report that successful dieters gave was that they did not feel hungry while cutting back on the carbohydrates. Most people reported having increased energy as well. We have decided that we will try reducing the carbohydrates in our diet and also cut the amount of fat we take in. We are creating a hybrid system that we hope will give us results as well as change our eating habits for the rest of our lives.

Detoxification Diets

detoxification diets

It seems that there's always some new alternative therapy that's all the rage, and right now its detoxification diets. These diets are intended to help the body to eliminate toxins in many ways, and while detox diets are effective by themselves, they may be reinforced by eating certain foods and drinking prescribed liquids. Just like anything else, how well these diets work for you will depend on how well you follow them, and of course, it's not right for everyone. As before starting any type of diet or exercise program, it's recommended that you speak with a health care professional first, regarding your physical health, and how the process may affect any current health conditions. A detox diet may be contraindicated in people with certain chronic illness, and who are on certain prescribed medications.

The removal of potentially toxic substances from the body is a common treatment for alcohol and drug dependence, but the term is also used to refer to diets, herbs, and other methods of removing environmental and dietary toxins from the body for general health. The benefits of detoxification diets and how to properly detoxify your body can be found on a number of sites online. Just remember that not all of these cleansing therapies are safe, and some can really cause harm to your body, which is why it's so important to consult your physician first before proceeding with any type of detoxification program. The liver is the primary organ involved in detoxification, which is why it's important to support and protect the liver during the detoxification process, especially if there are any health concerns involved. Elimination in the form of stool and urine is also increased to cleanse the colon, and to enhance circulation to clear toxic substances and allergens from the body.

For general information about detoxification diets, visit www.altmedicine.about.com, for instructions and common questions about how to detox your body using colon cleanses and prescribed food lists. Start with the detox screening quiz, learn the detoxification diet basics, find out what foods to eat and ones to avoid, and how the diet can be customized for individual needs. Many people believe that various health conditions are caused by toxins and pollutants in the body, which can cause everything from indigestion, food sensitivities, and bacterial overgrowths to weak hair, skin, and nails. Detoxification diets are intended to rejuvenate both the mind and body, the premise being that as toxins are eliminated from the body, our outlook changes toward a more healthier vision, once that will enhance and sustain life, and create more positive energy around us, something we all need!

Atkins Diet

atkins diet

If you have ever struggled with a weight problem, then you have no doubt tried a number of weight loss strategies. When it comes to choosing a weight loss plan, there are too many to mention, such as fad diets, liquid diets, high protein-low carbohydrate diets, low fat diets, cleansing diets, cabbage soup diets, and green tea diets, in addition to an overwhelming selection of diet products like supplements, appetite suppressants, diet systems, diet clubs, etc. In light of all these choices, a diet low in carbohydrates has proven to be the most popular and the most effective for losing and maintaining the weight loss. The Atkins diet is a well known low carb diet that many people have followed to successfully take off significant amounts of weight amidst a fair amount of controversy.

The Atkins Diet was developed by Dr. Robert C. Atkins in the 1960s and popularized in his book "Dr. Atkins' Diet Revolution" in 1972. According to www.atkins.com and www.webmd.com, the Atkins Diet is based on the premise that people are overweight because they eat too many carbohydrates, therefore by drastically reducing carbohydrates in the diet and increasing protein and fat, we will naturally lose weight by burning stored body fat because not as many carbohydrates will be available. Limits are not placed on the amounts of food eaten, but the kinds of food; no refined sugar, milk, white rice, white potatoes or pasta, or white flour are allowed, but pure proteins like red meat, fish, shellfish, fowl, and fats including regular cheeses, mayonnaise, olive oil, and butter are allowed. During the first two weeks of the diet, carbohydrates are limited to 20 net grams per day, which is the total number of carb grams minus fiber grams. After the first two weeks, you can add fruits, vegetables, and whole-grains to your Atkins diet menu increasing your carbohydrates with fiber-rich foods. You don't have to count calories either, and you may even eat more than you did before.

There are countless success stories and weight loss claims by people who used the Atkins diet to lose massive amounts of weight, but it may not be right for everyone. Nothing can replace good health, nutrition, and fitness, which should be combined with any diet plan. There is a fair amount of controversy surrounding the Atkins Diet. The American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society among other prominent health entities have issued warnings in opposition to the diet, stating it is dangerous to follow for any length of time; and you must agree, it does seem very much like a dietitian's nightmare, apples in favor of bacon and butter. If you have any health issues at all, consult a health professional before beginning Atkins Diet or any other weight loss program.

Low calorie recipes

low calorie recipes

No matter what diet fads come and go, there is one standard rule when it comes to weight loss and weight management. You want to take in fewer calories than you use during the day. For this reason, low calorie recipes are some of the most important tools that you can use for your personal weight loss or weight management goals.

Consider all of the different programs that you have tried. Each one, even the ones that really don't seem to take caloric intake into consideration, does work with low calorie recipes. I have found that the best approach to keeping my figure in check is to keep my caloric intake under control.

This task isn't as easy as it may seem. Those calories really sneak up on you. For example, I was instructed by my doctor to take in an extra 300 calories each day while I was breastfeeding my daughter. "Woo Hoo!" I thought. It's time to party. I went crazy adding yummy foods to my diet that I would normally avoid using my typical low calorie recipes.

In no time at all I found myself struggling to get into my favorite pair of jeans. How could this be? I mean, the doctor said that I needed the extra caloric intake and I know that I was burning an extra 300 to 500 calories each day. I didn't need to use my low calorie recipes anymore. Or so I thought.

Actually, I discovered (much to my disappointment) that 300 calories is really not very much at all. I quickly added the extra calories just by eating a cookie or two during the day. No wonder I wound up getting a little chubby in the process. I was so used to running on auto pilot with my low calorie recipes that I had no idea how easy it was to rack up too many throughout the day.

No more flying solo for me. I like to stick to using my low calorie recipes. It's the easiest way for me to keep my figure in check. Now that I really can see that a couple cookies can add a significant number of calories into my daily intake, I opt for smarter options. After all, I like to eat and I can eat more when I have lower calorie foods than fatty ones.

Who wouldn't prefer to eat a whole plate full of tasty, healthy foods than a small bit of junk food? Low calorie recipes are the perfect tool for making good foods even better.

Detoxification diets

detoxification diets

You've probably come across a few detoxification diets in your search for a real solution to a number of health problems. These programs are commonly associated with weight loss but there are many other occasions that call for detoxification diets. Following are some of the most popular reasons that you might want to consider one.

Of course, no one can help but think about weight loss once the many detoxification diets are mentioned. This is just a natural knee-jerk reaction to the word diet. Fortunately, these programs are fantastic for jumpstarting your metabolism and for getting your system cleansed in the process.

Your typical weight loss plan will cleanse your system just though the elimination of a lot of junk food and the introduction of healthier eating options. However, detoxification diets go a step further. You flush out the toxins in your system that may be instrumental in your holding on to extra pounds.

One key ingredient that all detoxification diets have in common is water. Some like you to add a little fresh lemon into the beverage while others like for you to stick to pure distilled water with no additives. Either way, you are flushing out the unwanted toxins from your system when you add water to your detoxification diets.

There are other reasons that someone may want to consider one of these body cleansing programs. Anyone who suffers from acne breakouts can benefit from trying one of the detoxification diets available today. These programs serve to help get rid of excess toxins in the system and some of these elements may be the cause behind the acne breakouts.

One way to tell that you might need to flush out your system is by looking at your skin. If you see a lot of acne, blackheads or enlarged pores then you may want to look into detoxification diets to help you clear your complexion while cleaning out your system. Your mood may also be affected by too many toxins in your system. Too much caffeine, sugar, fatty foods and alcohol can build up in your body and the excess may show up in a foul mood. You may feel tired, run down or a little sad because your system is filled with heavy toxins that need to be released.

So if you want to feel energized and you want a clear complexion then detoxification diets are for you. Oh yes. These programs can help you drop a few pounds, too.

Detoxification diets

detoxification diets

detoxification diets You may not be feeling quite right, but you can’t seem to find a good reason as to why this is. You might have even gone to the doctor only to realize that there is nothing medically wrong with you. You might just have a build up of toxins in your system, and few weeks of eating better might be just what you need. There are many things that can contribute to these problems, and many of them are out of your control. You can control what you eat though, and that is when detoxification diets come into play.

How well these detoxification diets work for you will depend on how well you follow them. I have a friend who does this once a year, and she swears that she always feels better when she is done. Though there are many different detoxification diets you can follow, she always comes up with her own. She cuts out all sugars and all fats. She eats nothing but fruits and vegetables for two weeks, and drinks nothing but water. She works out and does meditation as much as possible. She says it works wonders, but it hard to stay on for any longer than that.

You can probably find some good detoxification diets online, and they may or may not be like the one my friend uses. You have to look through the diet and be realistic when you read. You will know if something might help you clean out your system, or if it might end up being dangerous. You are going into dangerous territory if you think you can live on nothing but water for a week. Anyone should know that, but there are some who try it. If you aren’t sure about something you read, talk to a medical professional about it.

Remember that detoxification diets should only last a week or two. Anything longer and you run the risk of damage to your system. If you choose something that might be dangerous, you are going to feel horrible rather than feeling better. These do take some dedication, and if you can’t seem to eat right day in and day out, you might have huge problems when attempting one of them. If you can get through a good one though, you may find that you feel better than ever. You may have not given much thought to what toxins can do, but once you free yourself from them, you’ll want to keep it up.

Atkins weight loss

atkins weight loss

atkins weight loss The Atkins weight loss plan has been around for decades, but gained huge popularity in the 1990s. There is something special about this weight loss program that is hard to deny. It works. There are many testimonials to be found and pictures to go with them. Many lose weight on this diet, and they do it without being hungry or deprived. Even those with a sweet tooth can easily do this diet, and in fact, these are the folks that might benefit from this type of diet the most.

Most people have been taught their entire lives that fat is the enemy, and this means that they are scared to try the Atkins weight loss plan. The reason for this fear is that this diet actually encourages a person to eat fat, especially in the beginning of the diet. Most mistakenly call the Atkins weight loss plan a high protein diet. Instead, it is really a low carb plan that encourages protein and fat consumption, but it does not exclude all carbs and does not recommend too much protein.

What the Atkins weight loss program does is stop the sugar addiction that many have. When the body cannot use carbs for energy, it switches to fat burning. Though a person can eat all they want of acceptable foods, weight still comes off because the body is using the new energy source. If you have ever had a high carb meal only to be hungry an hour later, you know what it feels like to be hungry all of the time no matter how much you eat. The Atkins weight loss program eliminates these sugar crashes. I can say from experience that it really works. After just a few days on the program the carb cravings disappear.

The fist week on the Atkins weight loss program is rough, but not nearly as bad as one might think. The cravings go away in this time as the body adjusts, and there can be some headaches and even a feeling of having the flu. However, this is temporary, and once the second week of the program begins, a person on Atkins will feel better than they have in years. I know for me, the dizzy spells and the constant cravings have vanished, and I feel better than I can ever remember feeling. It sounds a little kooky, but employing this type of plan for life is the answer many are looking for.

Atkins meals

atkins meals

There are a lot of misconceptions about the Atkins way of life, and many assume that Atkins meals are nothing more than meat, eggs, bacon, and cheese. I can understand why some think this, and that is mostly the fault of the American media. When the Atkins way of eating first hit the media in a big way, long after it was quietly successful for many that was what they latched onto. However, there is more to Atkins eating, and anyone who argues that point obviously has not done their homework.

Many say that Atkins is low carb and high protein. That is only partially right. They think their Atkins meals will all be high protien when in fact the emphasis is on fats and proteins together. This is a scary thought because we have been told how bad fat is for a long time, and most diets are low fat. However, we’ve been eating fats for hundreds of years. The obesity epidemic is right in line with the rise of highly processed sugars.

Why is it that I can’t eat bread in my Atkins meals? Mostly because the whole wheat bread I just bought for my family has high fructose corn syrup in it. Why is that? Though the studies seem to be right in line with what Dr. Atkins taught his patients and the rest of the world, people are still leery because they believe that Atkins meals are all meat. That’s not true. Anyone who is following this way of eating to the letter knows they are eating more vegetables than they have probably ever had in their entire lifetime. Some try to cut carbs completely, and that is not the correct way to do the program. Atkins meals have low carbs and a mix of fats and proteins.

The only way to do the Atkins program is to read the book. Many do what they think is Atkins, but they aren’t, and they are then complaining of bad health and no results. It’s essential to have the knowledge behind the program, and that allows those using the program to prepare correct Atkins meals. The high fat content is something that goes away quickly in the program as more carbs are added back. Once weight is lost, and the number of good carbs goes up, you will be eating a very balanced diet that is good for the body and is more inline with what people were eating before sugar became an ingredient in almost everything.

Atkins low carb recipes

atkins low carb recipes

Anyone who has been on the Atkins weight loss die knows how monotonous it gets. Oh sure, when you first start it sounds terribly exciting. You get to eat all the meat that you want. For me, it was the perfect diet. I got to eat bacon for breakfast every day, and steak as often as I wanted. Nonetheless, it was only a matter of time before Atkins diet food got boring. This is the tragedy of the Atkins diets. It is a sad day when steak becomes a boring meal, but nonetheless after the first week it was hard for me to even take a bite of that red, fatty meat. I was just so sick of it. That is when I started being more creative with cooking Atkins low carb recipes.

For the first several weeks of the Atkins diet, I didn't contemplate any creativity with my Atkins low carb recipe regimen. After all, I was quite happy with my steady diet of meat and cheese. Who wouldn't be for awhile? By the time I got sick of my all meat diet, I was a little frightened of Atkins low carb recipes. To tell you the truth, I assumed they would all be terrible. The only thing that I really wanted, after all, was starch. I figured that anything that I could eat in the Atkins diet would be proteinaceous and disgusting. It turns out that there are more low carb foods than I had thought. Although a lot of people start with basic high-protein food, Atkins meal plans can actually be varied and interesting. It is all a matter of being creative.

Unfortunately, once I started tinkering with the Atkins low carb recipes, I wanted more. It was almost as if those Atkins low carb recipes touched off my hunger for other, more varied foods. The more I learned how to cook interesting foods that I could still eat on the Atkins diet, the more I wanted the forbidden fruits so to speak. The Atkins low carb recipes, instead of the assuaging my hunger for carbs, merely strengthened it. I knew that my days on the Atkins diet program were numbered. Sooner or later, I would give in to the temptation to eat carbohydrates. Rather than waiting for the inevitable, I made the decision to switch off the Atkins Weight loss program. No more Atkins advantage bars, no more steaks for dinner. From now on, I would lose my weight by eating a healthy diet.

Atkins diet information

atkins diet information

As a family physician, you would be amazed at how often I am asked for low carb diet information. You see, everyone is dieting nowadays. It used to be just teenage girls who wanted to lose weight, but more and more in our culture, people are self conscious about the way they look. It is ironic because we are more obese than we have ever been as a nation, and yet at the same time we look at ourselves more critically in the mirror every day.

This is why Atkins diet information is so sought after by so many people. You see, the Atkins diet food list is a dream come true for any glutton. Think about it – you get to eat as much meat as you want. You can have bacon for breakfast, steak for lunch, pork rinds for dinner – practically anything that you want as long as it doesn't involve starch. Dr. Atkins has really created a system that works for us carnivorous Americans better than anything else. All the Atkins diet information that I have seems indicates that it works quite well. As long as you can stick to the diet, you will lose weight with amazing rapidity.

Unfortunately, there is another side to the Atkins low carb food diet. More and more of the Atkins diet information coming out nowadays suggests that the diet itself is extremely dangerous for your health. You may end up looking thinner, but in the meantime you could conceivably wreck your liver! It just doesn't seem worth it to me as a doctor, and I tell my patients as much all the time. If you want to lose weight fast, take a more traditional approach. Exercise every day, control your portion size, and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Diet weight loss is simple if you think about it. All you have to do is stick to a healthy meal plan. Unfortunately, people don't want to do this. They would rather gorge on meat.

Often, my patients are so desperate for a rapid weight loss diet that they won't listen to my advice, and insist on going on the Atkins program anyway. When this happens, I asked them to at least look at the Atkins diet information. I know that it is only a matter of time before one of my patients drops dead from this dangerous fad diet. As a doctor, I want to postpone the inevitable as long as possible.

Atkins advantage bars

atkins advantage bars

atkins advantage bars Though they are relatively new, many are trying the Atkins Advantage bars to see if they can make a difference. These are not really for those who are not following the Atkins way of life, but that does not mean they do not have some advantage for anyone else. They are not full of carbs so they will not be an instant energy boost. They will be, however, a way to stay full for a few hours. These are not something that seem to be accepted by everyone who lives the Atkins lifestyle, however.

Those who are in the induction stage of Atkins should probably skip these. The Atkins Advantage bars are marketed in some spots as being okay for those in i
