The many delightful faces of a Spinach salad

spinach salad

We all know that Popeye the Sailor Man thrived on spinach. When a crisis arose, out came that can of spinach to fortify him and win the day. It's not clear how many kids of his day were convinced to join him.

However unappealing that meal appeared, the virtues of spinach are many. Fresh spinach is full of iron and a bevy of vitamins, many of them antioxidants. Antioxidants are now known to help prevent cancer and the plentiful B vitamins help build muscle strength. Selenium, an important trace mineral and cancer fighter, rounds out the list of laudable nutrients found in spinach.

Nutritional qualities aside, properly prepared spinach is delicious. One of the most delectable meals to be made of this green powerhouse is the spinach salad. If you've never tried one, you're in for a treat.

Begin by washing your spinach thoroughly. Use a sink full of icy cold water. This keeps the leaves crisp. Swish the leaves, by handfuls, around in the water to remove any sand clinging to the leaves. Repeat this process several times with fresh water, gently rubbing the leaves as you go, until the water is absolutely clear. If you wish, you can pinch off the stems of the leaves. Pat the leaves gently between paper towels or a clean dish towel to remove excess water. Don't bruise the leaves. You want nice crisp leaves for your spinach salad creation.

Fresh spinach has a nice bite to it, somewhat like an al dente version of vegetables. The taste is very slightly, but quite pleasantly, bitter. The flavor is fulsome and might be described as a refreshing palate teaser. Spinach always plays the starring role in any spinach salad. There are many accent ingredients which go well with spinach, but these ingredients are the supporting cast in this vegetable production.

Now it's time to dress your salad. Choose from this lineup as your tastebuds fancy. Although there are traditional combinations, feel free to experiment. Perhaps most important to the successful spinach salad is that all of the ingredients be of the best quality.

Freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano shavings, dusted across the top of any spinach salad, are absolutely delightful. A few marinated artichoke hearts serve as counterpoint to the crunchy spinach leaves. The olive oil adds flavor, while the artichoke hearts add zest and texture. Diced, cooked bacon or pancetta sprinkled lightly across the salad is also delicious. Peeled, seeded and diced cucumber provides a good taste contrast. Diced onion and minced garlic are good with all of these other candidates.

Now you have a generic basic spinach salad recipe. The salad can be of whatever size your appetite requires. By the way, a spinach salad is an excellent choice for those with New Year's weight loss resolutions! To your health!

Detoxification diets

detoxification diets

People get involved in detoxification diet are all kinds of different reasons. A lot of people think of them as a spiritual thing as much as a physical thing. Other people do it to lose weight. Some people are even doing it because they want to defeat chronic conditions which haven't been effectively treated by medicine. Whatever the reason, a detox diet can work wonders for your health, but only if you go about it right. If you go on detoxification diets without giving them careful thought and planning, or without consulting your doctor, they can do more harm than good. It is a powerful tool, and as with all powerful tools, it has to be used with caution.

The simplest detoxification diets involve no food at all. You should never diet without drinking liquids, but you can fast for quite a while on water alone. People go for three days, five days, or even up to two weeks on water only detox diets. This has some advantages and some disadvantages. One of the advantages, strangely enough, is that it is the easiest detox diet plan to follow. If you are on a juice only detoxification diet, it is hard to resist the lure of more substantial food. The juice that you drink during these kinds of detoxification diets just whets your appetite, making you crave more. With a total fast, however, after a day or two you stop being hungry. Your energy drops a lot, but at least it isn't hard to continue to refrain from eating.

Of course, many people recommend using a more specialized program than the water only diet. Juice diets have a lot of advantages to them. Of all the detoxification diets, they are probably the easiest to function on. Juice provides enough sugar and nutrients to keep your energy up, and even to provide a fair amount of sustenance. You can lose weight quicker too, because the juice keeps your metabolism from slowing down too much.

Of course, there are more extreme measures you can undergo. Colon cleansing diets have become pretty popular in this country. Although some doctors dispute their effectiveness, other people swear by them. Basically, they put the detox in detox diet. The whole point is to clear everything out of your colon and digestive tract. This can be exceedingly unpleasant, but many people swear by it. Some people even believe it has miraculous curing powers. I haven't had the stomach to try personally. If you give it a shot, won't you tell me how it works?

Lose wieght diet

lose wieght diet

Times are rough! Okay, maybe that's a bit over-dramatic. Times are rough for some people, and not so much for others. I suppose overall we currently reside in a pretty wonderful world. However, those who're constantly struggling with their weight may not see things the same way. In fact, many of these individuals are down-right depressed. Maybe they have difficulty sticking to a diet, or they simply love food a little too much. Well, the cold, harsh truth is that a REAL lose wieght diet consists of routine and will power. You have to adopt proper eating habits and conform to a strict exercise regimen. This is the best route to take if you truly want results. You must stick to the program!

When people mention the phrase "lose wieght diet," what comes to mind? I generally picture low-fat, low-sugar, low-sodium foods with plenty of nutrients, along with a consistent workout program. And let's not forget plenty of water and rest. These are the bare essentials folks. These are the key ingredients for any effective lose wieght diet. You must change your eating habits and stay strong. I always hear people say "But what if I work out four days a week and just keep eating like I do?" Hmm, this is unlikely to be effective for someone overweight. You must also change your poor eating habits in order to shed pounds of fat. You may not gain any additional weight since you're working out routinely, but you may not lose anything either. It's sort of a stagnant position. My guess is you really want to lose a specific number of pounds. Most people do. Ask them and they'll tell you. My spouse is a perfect example. She wants to drop 10 pounds. Maybe she believes that 10 pounds is what's keeping her from an ideal size and weight. Either way, she needs a serious lose wieght diet to accomplish her weight loss goal. And the same goes for you as well.

Losing weight is never fun. The majority of us hate to even have to grapple with our weights. It's a pesky annoyance that comes with life and aging. Now, if you're serious about dropping pounds and getting results, remember what must be focused on. Eating right, fish, poultry, vegetables, fruits and water; exercising regularly, 4-5 days a week, mostly cardio to start; and sticking to your program. Soon you will reach that desired weight you're after.

Atkins weight loss

atkins weight loss

Although I had heard a lot of information about low carb weight loss, I was still quite skeptical, to say the least. Atkins weight loss simply sounded too good to be true. I had a friend who was on the Atkins meal plan, and although I didn't get to see him frequently since he lived across country, he claimed that the results were stunning and spectacular. Through the Atkins diet plan, he said, he had lost 10 pounds in just over a week. It was hard for me to believe that that was true. Furthermore, it was hard for me to believe that it was healthy. The Atkins meal plan involves eating nothing but high protein food, and small helpings of non-starchy vegetables. There is no way that this is good for the body!

Nonetheless, I was desperate. Spring was fast approaching, and I knew I wouldn't look good in my bathing suit. I decided the Atkins weight loss was my best bet. It was the only way I would look and feel my best in time for lounging on the beach. When I first started the weight loss Atkins plan, it was a lot of fun. After all, who doesn't want to sit there all day and gorge on fatty foods? Soon, however, I started to really yearn for something healthy. You really cannot stick with that plan for very long without starting to miss fresh fruits and vegetables. Your body starts to feel gross after a few days of nothing but meat, and you long for a nice healthy salad.

I decided to stick with it for a little bit longer. After all, I had spent all the money on the Atkins advantage bars, the meal plan, and the Atkins weight loss book, so it seemed like I should at least give it a fair try. Wouldn't you know it, I started losing weight by the fourth day! It was amazing how quickly the pounds dropped off. I didn't know the science behind it, but I didn't really care. All I knew was that I would be slim in no time with the Atkins meal plan.

I know the Atkins weight loss is unhealthy, but few fad diets are. You see, it isn't meant to be a permanent solution. It is just something that you should do until you can get your weight under control. Then you can switch to a normal diet and watch what you eat.

Atkins shakes

atkins shakes

Any type of diet plan has something that is made just to help you out. Though there are not a lot of things made for some, you may find many companies want to sell you something that falls within the guidelines of what you should have and what you should skip. If you are doing the Atkins plan, you may know about the Atkins shakes that you can find in almost any store where you normally shop for your foods. Though this diet plan is all about eating the right carbs in a more natural form, the shakes can help you out when that is not possible.

Before you run out and get the Atkins shakes, you should think about where you are in the diet. There are some that say these shakes have stopped their progress because they tried them too early in the diet. You want to wait at least six months before you try them, because some of the ingredients might not mesh with the rung of the diet you are on. Look through the ingredients to be sure everything contained within the Atkins shakes is legal for your stage of your dieting and your diet plan.

Once you know you are safe to have the Atkins shakes, you should be careful how you use them. Choose the ones that look most appealing to you, and then add them to your diet plan very slowly. This means you want to try having two or three a week at the most at first to be sure they do not stall out your weight loss. Once you know they are not going to affect you, you can slowly work your way up to having one a day if you wish, but don't always use them for substitutes for the good foods you should be eating.

The Atkins shakes are great when you are away from home, and making an Atkins friendly meal is simply out of the question. When you travel, it can be hard to find something you can have when you are going in and out of convenience stores to find something to eat. If you have a few Atkins shakes with you when you travel, you know you have something that agrees with your diet plan no matter where you end up. You can also use them for snacks at work, or even when you need something at night. Just remember to allow them to work with your diet, and don't replace good meals more often than you should.

Atkins meal plans

atkins meal plans

When trying to lose weight, there are many mistakes that people make. One is thinking you can go on a plan only to drop it and go back to old eating habits after the excess weight is gone. That way you are getting foods that fall within the guidelines of the diet, but you also are getting what you love to eat.

Atkins bars

atkins bars

Most people on the Atkins eating plan think about trying the Atkins bars. Though these have their place in the diet, they should be used with caution. The Atkins company is no longer run by Dr. Atkins, as he has passed on, and some of the changes they have made do not necessarily reflect his idea of what this eating plan is all about. It is a personal decision of course, but those wondering about them in the early stages of the plan may want to hold off.

During the induction period of the diet, and through most of the ongoing weight loss rungs, these are not going to help much. They have too many ingredients that are not quite legal in the eating plan yet. Those who eat the Atkins bars too early may notice they have stalled and are not losing weight. They may not think it is the bar because it has the Atkins name on it, but this has been a problem for many who have found that they stopped losing. Once they stopped eating the bars, they started dropping weight again.

However, once a dieter has gone through most of the rungs and is eating a higher number of more diverse carbohydrates, they may find a great place in the eating plan for the Atkins bars. One great feature of Atkins is that most on the plan will lose most of their appetite, and that is part of the secret of why it works. The Atkins bar might be something that would make a great breakfast or even lunch for those who simply don't feel like eating, but know they should be eating something. They should only do so once they have been on the plan for a while though, and they should watch how they feel after eating one.

Atkins bars are not a no-no, and they certainly have a place in this eating plan, but a person should use caution. Try them one or two days for one week to be sure they agree with your body, and then add more in if you like. It might be tempting to try them early on, but anyone hoping to succeed should give it a few months before they try them to be sure their system is ready to handle them without adverse affects to their eating plan. When it comes to finding something simple and easy, the Atkins bars are great when appropriate.

Junk food

junk food

I grew up in the generation of junk food - eating anything and everything unhealthy for me. I turned out fine. I'm incredibly healthy, despite the fact that I practically survived on candy bars and potato chips. Nowadays, there's a major obesity problem going on in the world and everyone wants to point fingers at junk food at being the culprit. I tend to disagree with that. Sure, there is way too much junk food being marketed in today's society. There's too much fat and calories in all of the food we're eating. Fast food restaurants are adjusting their trans fat and the way their foods are prepared and made. While that makes some people happy, people aren't realizing that some of the blame needs to be placed on parents and on people themselves.

The fact is, when you have a tendency and habit to shove junk food in your mouth, you will tend to gain weight. It doesn't take a genius to figure this logic out. Parents let their children overeat junk food. I've seen parents let their kids eat lots of unhealthy food and then expect their child to eat a healthy dinner. That doesn't happen.

Eating junk food can be healthy and normal - if it is kept to certain restrictions and levels. Letting your child survive on cookies and candy isn't going to result in anything but higher dentist bills and larger clothing. But, giving your kids healthy meals and allowing junk food as in-between snacks isn't anything horrible, provided it isn't in excess. Giving your child a handful of Oreo cookies isn't terrible but allowing them to eat as many as they want can be rather unhealthy.

Kids today, as well as adults, use food as a method of soothing themselves. I will include myself in that statement. When I'm depressed or hating the world, I find myself reaching for a candy bar or a bowl of ice cream. Is that healthy? No. Does it taste good? Absolutely. So, how do we solve this issue? I've recognized the fact that I utilize junk food in this manner.

While I'm not unhealthy, I'm not exactly getting any skinnier in my years. So, I have tried to find junk food that has fewer calories, reduced fat or seems to be less detrimental to me. Instead of ice cream, I might look for frozen yogurt. I've tried to buy crackers with less fat. I'm not sure if I can credit some of my weight loss to eating junk foods that seem to be less evil, or if I need to credit the fact that I'm more aware of what I eat. But, if you can prevent some calories or trans fat from entering your body, that's a positive thing. Even better, if your children see you eater snacks and junk food that has less fat and calories, they will follow your lead. Of course, they have to follow your lead if that's all that is in the house for them to munch on.

You don't need to give up the junk food that tastes incredibly good, you just need to be more conscious about the junk food and make wiser choices.

Fresh fruit

fresh fruit

There are some families that are desert families and some that are not. Mine was definitely a desert family. Growing up, we enjoyed the most sumptuous and extravagant sweets with our dinners. Whether we were going out or staying in, we would have cake, ice cream, truffles, tarts, or some other delicious treat at the end of the meal. Even if we were eating something basic like meatloaf or grilled chicken, dinner was not thought of as complete until we had something to counter the otherwise healthy meal. I would not say that we were hugely obese people, but we were definitely overweight. After all, even if you are otherwise eating healthy food, all those sweets can add up after a while. And add up they did!

When I moved out on my own and wanted to lose some weight, my solution was to cut out sweets entirely. I hated not having something sweet after dinner, but I didn't see any other way to do it. I would eat no sweets until my willpower gave out, then binge. I don't know why fresh fruit didn't occur to me as an option earlier, but it didn't. Once it did, however, it revolutionized my eating habits.

My parents would cook with fresh fruits, but they would never use them for dessert when I was growing up. Then one day, I received a fresh fruit basket from a friend. It was filled with fresh citrus fruit from Florida: oranges, lemons, and pomegranates. A lot of people scoff when they get fresh fruit baskets. They consider them to be a mediocre and uninspired gift. I reacted much differently. I was overjoyed to be getting all those fresh fruits. I practically ate myself sick!

A lot of people talk about the problems of eating too much fresh fruit. Supposedly, raw sugars are not much better for you than processed ones, and you can gain weight from eating fresh fruit almost as easily as from eating chocolate cake. This opinion is rubbish. If you eat your fruit fresh, you get the fiber, vitamins, and minerals that are incorporated into these natural foods, without the fats and carbohydrates that typical deserts are filled with. Yes it is possible to eat too much fresh fruit, but you can eat too much of anything! The bottom line is, fresh fruits are a great way to enjoy a little taste of something sweet without compromising your diet.

Does the atkins diet work

does the atkins diet work

The people in America are becoming more obsessed with weight and dieting. We are also getting heavier than any other time in the nations history. There are diets, surgeries and supplements that are geared towards helping people lose weight, but most of them fail to get people to address the true issue of looking at how they need to change their lifestyle to keep the weight off.

My husband and I decided that we needed to address our weight. We were both carrying more weight than we needed to be. Friends of ours were on the low carbohydrates diet, and had lost weight quickly, but our question was does the atkins diet work in keeping the weight off. We decided that we would research this and other diets to see what we would be able to fit into our lives the easiest. We knew that the plan had to be easy to follow and flexible in order for us to stay on it. We knew that most diets would give you results if followed faithfully, yet we were concerned about what happens in the long term.

My husband had me look into low carb dieting to know does the atkins diet work and he was going to look into lower fat dieting. In a way asking the question does Atkins diet work seemed silly considering that the number of people that were following some form of it was growing on a national level. Restaurants and fast food chains were changing their menus to accommodate the number of people that were looking for foods that were lower in carbohydrates. Due to the number of people that are following the Atkins diet it was easy to find information on it.

After doing research on does the atkins diet work I found that the entire process is dedicated to changing your eating habits for a life time. The strict low carbohydrate intake is used to drop weight, but then a full regiment for adding some healthy carbs back into the diet is outlined in the books and other materials that are available. The goal is to add enough carbohydrates back into your daily routine to satisfy your hunger and cravings, without over doing to the point of gaining weight back. The consistent report that successful dieters gave was that they did not feel hungry while cutting back on the carbohydrates. Most people reported having increased energy as well. We have decided that we will try reducing the carbohydrates in our diet and also cut the amount of fat we take in. We are creating a hybrid system that we hope will give us results as well as change our eating habits for the rest of our lives.

Detoxification Diets

detoxification diets

It seems that there's always some new alternative therapy that's all the rage, and right now its detoxification diets. These diets are intended to help the body to eliminate toxins in many ways, and while detox diets are effective by themselves, they may be reinforced by eating certain foods and drinking prescribed liquids. Just like anything else, how well these diets work for you will depend on how well you follow them, and of course, it's not right for everyone. As before starting any type of diet or exercise program, it's recommended that you speak with a health care professional first, regarding your physical health, and how the process may affect any current health conditions. A detox diet may be contraindicated in people with certain chronic illness, and who are on certain prescribed medications.

The removal of potentially toxic substances from the body is a common treatment for alcohol and drug dependence, but the term is also used to refer to diets, herbs, and other methods of removing environmental and dietary toxins from the body for general health. The benefits of detoxification diets and how to properly detoxify your body can be found on a number of sites online. Just remember that not all of these cleansing therapies are safe, and some can really cause harm to your body, which is why it's so important to consult your physician first before proceeding with any type of detoxification program. The liver is the primary organ involved in detoxification, which is why it's important to support and protect the liver during the detoxification process, especially if there are any health concerns involved. Elimination in the form of stool and urine is also increased to cleanse the colon, and to enhance circulation to clear toxic substances and allergens from the body.

For general information about detoxification diets, visit www.altmedicine.about.com, for instructions and common questions about how to detox your body using colon cleanses and prescribed food lists. Start with the detox screening quiz, learn the detoxification diet basics, find out what foods to eat and ones to avoid, and how the diet can be customized for individual needs. Many people believe that various health conditions are caused by toxins and pollutants in the body, which can cause everything from indigestion, food sensitivities, and bacterial overgrowths to weak hair, skin, and nails. Detoxification diets are intended to rejuvenate both the mind and body, the premise being that as toxins are eliminated from the body, our outlook changes toward a more healthier vision, once that will enhance and sustain life, and create more positive energy around us, something we all need!

Atkins Diet

atkins diet

If you have ever struggled with a weight problem, then you have no doubt tried a number of weight loss strategies. When it comes to choosing a weight loss plan, there are too many to mention, such as fad diets, liquid diets, high protein-low carbohydrate diets, low fat diets, cleansing diets, cabbage soup diets, and green tea diets, in addition to an overwhelming selection of diet products like supplements, appetite suppressants, diet systems, diet clubs, etc. In light of all these choices, a diet low in carbohydrates has proven to be the most popular and the most effective for losing and maintaining the weight loss. The Atkins diet is a well known low carb diet that many people have followed to successfully take off significant amounts of weight amidst a fair amount of controversy.

The Atkins Diet was developed by Dr. Robert C. Atkins in the 1960s and popularized in his book "Dr. Atkins' Diet Revolution" in 1972. According to www.atkins.com and www.webmd.com, the Atkins Diet is based on the premise that people are overweight because they eat too many carbohydrates, therefore by drastically reducing carbohydrates in the diet and increasing protein and fat, we will naturally lose weight by burning stored body fat because not as many carbohydrates will be available. Limits are not placed on the amounts of food eaten, but the kinds of food; no refined sugar, milk, white rice, white potatoes or pasta, or white flour are allowed, but pure proteins like red meat, fish, shellfish, fowl, and fats including regular cheeses, mayonnaise, olive oil, and butter are allowed. During the first two weeks of the diet, carbohydrates are limited to 20 net grams per day, which is the total number of carb grams minus fiber grams. After the first two weeks, you can add fruits, vegetables, and whole-grains to your Atkins diet menu increasing your carbohydrates with fiber-rich foods. You don't have to count calories either, and you may even eat more than you did before.

There are countless success stories and weight loss claims by people who used the Atkins diet to lose massive amounts of weight, but it may not be right for everyone. Nothing can replace good health, nutrition, and fitness, which should be combined with any diet plan. There is a fair amount of controversy surrounding the Atkins Diet. The American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society among other prominent health entities have issued warnings in opposition to the diet, stating it is dangerous to follow for any length of time; and you must agree, it does seem very much like a dietitian's nightmare, apples in favor of bacon and butter. If you have any health issues at all, consult a health professional before beginning Atkins Diet or any other weight loss program.

Low calorie recipes

low calorie recipes

No matter what diet fads come and go, there is one standard rule when it comes to weight loss and weight management. You want to take in fewer calories than you use during the day. For this reason, low calorie recipes are some of the most important tools that you can use for your personal weight loss or weight management goals.

Consider all of the different programs that you have tried. Each one, even the ones that really don't seem to take caloric intake into consideration, does work with low calorie recipes. I have found that the best approach to keeping my figure in check is to keep my caloric intake under control.

This task isn't as easy as it may seem. Those calories really sneak up on you. For example, I was instructed by my doctor to take in an extra 300 calories each day while I was breastfeeding my daughter. "Woo Hoo!" I thought. It's time to party. I went crazy adding yummy foods to my diet that I would normally avoid using my typical low calorie recipes.

In no time at all I found myself struggling to get into my favorite pair of jeans. How could this be? I mean, the doctor said that I needed the extra caloric intake and I know that I was burning an extra 300 to 500 calories each day. I didn't need to use my low calorie recipes anymore. Or so I thought.

Actually, I discovered (much to my disappointment) that 300 calories is really not very much at all. I quickly added the extra calories just by eating a cookie or two during the day. No wonder I wound up getting a little chubby in the process. I was so used to running on auto pilot with my low calorie recipes that I had no idea how easy it was to rack up too many throughout the day.

No more flying solo for me. I like to stick to using my low calorie recipes. It's the easiest way for me to keep my figure in check. Now that I really can see that a couple cookies can add a significant number of calories into my daily intake, I opt for smarter options. After all, I like to eat and I can eat more when I have lower calorie foods than fatty ones.

Who wouldn't prefer to eat a whole plate full of tasty, healthy foods than a small bit of junk food? Low calorie recipes are the perfect tool for making good foods even better.

Detoxification diets

detoxification diets

You've probably come across a few detoxification diets in your search for a real solution to a number of health problems. These programs are commonly associated with weight loss but there are many other occasions that call for detoxification diets. Following are some of the most popular reasons that you might want to consider one.

Of course, no one can help but think about weight loss once the many detoxification diets are mentioned. This is just a natural knee-jerk reaction to the word diet. Fortunately, these programs are fantastic for jumpstarting your metabolism and for getting your system cleansed in the process.

Your typical weight loss plan will cleanse your system just though the elimination of a lot of junk food and the introduction of healthier eating options. However, detoxification diets go a step further. You flush out the toxins in your system that may be instrumental in your holding on to extra pounds.

One key ingredient that all detoxification diets have in common is water. Some like you to add a little fresh lemon into the beverage while others like for you to stick to pure distilled water with no additives. Either way, you are flushing out the unwanted toxins from your system when you add water to your detoxification diets.

There are other reasons that someone may want to consider one of these body cleansing programs. Anyone who suffers from acne breakouts can benefit from trying one of the detoxification diets available today. These programs serve to help get rid of excess toxins in the system and some of these elements may be the cause behind the acne breakouts.

One way to tell that you might need to flush out your system is by looking at your skin. If you see a lot of acne, blackheads or enlarged pores then you may want to look into detoxification diets to help you clear your complexion while cleaning out your system. Your mood may also be affected by too many toxins in your system. Too much caffeine, sugar, fatty foods and alcohol can build up in your body and the excess may show up in a foul mood. You may feel tired, run down or a little sad because your system is filled with heavy toxins that need to be released.

So if you want to feel energized and you want a clear complexion then detoxification diets are for you. Oh yes. These programs can help you drop a few pounds, too.

Detoxification diets

detoxification diets

detoxification diets You may not be feeling quite right, but you can’t seem to find a good reason as to why this is. You might have even gone to the doctor only to realize that there is nothing medically wrong with you. You might just have a build up of toxins in your system, and few weeks of eating better might be just what you need. There are many things that can contribute to these problems, and many of them are out of your control. You can control what you eat though, and that is when detoxification diets come into play.

How well these detoxification diets work for you will depend on how well you follow them. I have a friend who does this once a year, and she swears that she always feels better when she is done. Though there are many different detoxification diets you can follow, she always comes up with her own. She cuts out all sugars and all fats. She eats nothing but fruits and vegetables for two weeks, and drinks nothing but water. She works out and does meditation as much as possible. She says it works wonders, but it hard to stay on for any longer than that.

You can probably find some good detoxification diets online, and they may or may not be like the one my friend uses. You have to look through the diet and be realistic when you read. You will know if something might help you clean out your system, or if it might end up being dangerous. You are going into dangerous territory if you think you can live on nothing but water for a week. Anyone should know that, but there are some who try it. If you aren’t sure about something you read, talk to a medical professional about it.

Remember that detoxification diets should only last a week or two. Anything longer and you run the risk of damage to your system. If you choose something that might be dangerous, you are going to feel horrible rather than feeling better. These do take some dedication, and if you can’t seem to eat right day in and day out, you might have huge problems when attempting one of them. If you can get through a good one though, you may find that you feel better than ever. You may have not given much thought to what toxins can do, but once you free yourself from them, you’ll want to keep it up.

Atkins weight loss

atkins weight loss

atkins weight loss The Atkins weight loss plan has been around for decades, but gained huge popularity in the 1990s. There is something special about this weight loss program that is hard to deny. It works. There are many testimonials to be found and pictures to go with them. Many lose weight on this diet, and they do it without being hungry or deprived. Even those with a sweet tooth can easily do this diet, and in fact, these are the folks that might benefit from this type of diet the most.

Most people have been taught their entire lives that fat is the enemy, and this means that they are scared to try the Atkins weight loss plan. The reason for this fear is that this diet actually encourages a person to eat fat, especially in the beginning of the diet. Most mistakenly call the Atkins weight loss plan a high protein diet. Instead, it is really a low carb plan that encourages protein and fat consumption, but it does not exclude all carbs and does not recommend too much protein.

What the Atkins weight loss program does is stop the sugar addiction that many have. When the body cannot use carbs for energy, it switches to fat burning. Though a person can eat all they want of acceptable foods, weight still comes off because the body is using the new energy source. If you have ever had a high carb meal only to be hungry an hour later, you know what it feels like to be hungry all of the time no matter how much you eat. The Atkins weight loss program eliminates these sugar crashes. I can say from experience that it really works. After just a few days on the program the carb cravings disappear.

The fist week on the Atkins weight loss program is rough, but not nearly as bad as one might think. The cravings go away in this time as the body adjusts, and there can be some headaches and even a feeling of having the flu. However, this is temporary, and once the second week of the program begins, a person on Atkins will feel better than they have in years. I know for me, the dizzy spells and the constant cravings have vanished, and I feel better than I can ever remember feeling. It sounds a little kooky, but employing this type of plan for life is the answer many are looking for.

Atkins meals

atkins meals

There are a lot of misconceptions about the Atkins way of life, and many assume that Atkins meals are nothing more than meat, eggs, bacon, and cheese. I can understand why some think this, and that is mostly the fault of the American media. When the Atkins way of eating first hit the media in a big way, long after it was quietly successful for many that was what they latched onto. However, there is more to Atkins eating, and anyone who argues that point obviously has not done their homework.

Many say that Atkins is low carb and high protein. That is only partially right. They think their Atkins meals will all be high protien when in fact the emphasis is on fats and proteins together. This is a scary thought because we have been told how bad fat is for a long time, and most diets are low fat. However, we’ve been eating fats for hundreds of years. The obesity epidemic is right in line with the rise of highly processed sugars.

Why is it that I can’t eat bread in my Atkins meals? Mostly because the whole wheat bread I just bought for my family has high fructose corn syrup in it. Why is that? Though the studies seem to be right in line with what Dr. Atkins taught his patients and the rest of the world, people are still leery because they believe that Atkins meals are all meat. That’s not true. Anyone who is following this way of eating to the letter knows they are eating more vegetables than they have probably ever had in their entire lifetime. Some try to cut carbs completely, and that is not the correct way to do the program. Atkins meals have low carbs and a mix of fats and proteins.

The only way to do the Atkins program is to read the book. Many do what they think is Atkins, but they aren’t, and they are then complaining of bad health and no results. It’s essential to have the knowledge behind the program, and that allows those using the program to prepare correct Atkins meals. The high fat content is something that goes away quickly in the program as more carbs are added back. Once weight is lost, and the number of good carbs goes up, you will be eating a very balanced diet that is good for the body and is more inline with what people were eating before sugar became an ingredient in almost everything.

Atkins low carb recipes

atkins low carb recipes

Anyone who has been on the Atkins weight loss die knows how monotonous it gets. Oh sure, when you first start it sounds terribly exciting. You get to eat all the meat that you want. For me, it was the perfect diet. I got to eat bacon for breakfast every day, and steak as often as I wanted. Nonetheless, it was only a matter of time before Atkins diet food got boring. This is the tragedy of the Atkins diets. It is a sad day when steak becomes a boring meal, but nonetheless after the first week it was hard for me to even take a bite of that red, fatty meat. I was just so sick of it. That is when I started being more creative with cooking Atkins low carb recipes.

For the first several weeks of the Atkins diet, I didn't contemplate any creativity with my Atkins low carb recipe regimen. After all, I was quite happy with my steady diet of meat and cheese. Who wouldn't be for awhile? By the time I got sick of my all meat diet, I was a little frightened of Atkins low carb recipes. To tell you the truth, I assumed they would all be terrible. The only thing that I really wanted, after all, was starch. I figured that anything that I could eat in the Atkins diet would be proteinaceous and disgusting. It turns out that there are more low carb foods than I had thought. Although a lot of people start with basic high-protein food, Atkins meal plans can actually be varied and interesting. It is all a matter of being creative.

Unfortunately, once I started tinkering with the Atkins low carb recipes, I wanted more. It was almost as if those Atkins low carb recipes touched off my hunger for other, more varied foods. The more I learned how to cook interesting foods that I could still eat on the Atkins diet, the more I wanted the forbidden fruits so to speak. The Atkins low carb recipes, instead of the assuaging my hunger for carbs, merely strengthened it. I knew that my days on the Atkins diet program were numbered. Sooner or later, I would give in to the temptation to eat carbohydrates. Rather than waiting for the inevitable, I made the decision to switch off the Atkins Weight loss program. No more Atkins advantage bars, no more steaks for dinner. From now on, I would lose my weight by eating a healthy diet.

Atkins diet information

atkins diet information

As a family physician, you would be amazed at how often I am asked for low carb diet information. You see, everyone is dieting nowadays. It used to be just teenage girls who wanted to lose weight, but more and more in our culture, people are self conscious about the way they look. It is ironic because we are more obese than we have ever been as a nation, and yet at the same time we look at ourselves more critically in the mirror every day.

This is why Atkins diet information is so sought after by so many people. You see, the Atkins diet food list is a dream come true for any glutton. Think about it – you get to eat as much meat as you want. You can have bacon for breakfast, steak for lunch, pork rinds for dinner – practically anything that you want as long as it doesn't involve starch. Dr. Atkins has really created a system that works for us carnivorous Americans better than anything else. All the Atkins diet information that I have seems indicates that it works quite well. As long as you can stick to the diet, you will lose weight with amazing rapidity.

Unfortunately, there is another side to the Atkins low carb food diet. More and more of the Atkins diet information coming out nowadays suggests that the diet itself is extremely dangerous for your health. You may end up looking thinner, but in the meantime you could conceivably wreck your liver! It just doesn't seem worth it to me as a doctor, and I tell my patients as much all the time. If you want to lose weight fast, take a more traditional approach. Exercise every day, control your portion size, and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Diet weight loss is simple if you think about it. All you have to do is stick to a healthy meal plan. Unfortunately, people don't want to do this. They would rather gorge on meat.

Often, my patients are so desperate for a rapid weight loss diet that they won't listen to my advice, and insist on going on the Atkins program anyway. When this happens, I asked them to at least look at the Atkins diet information. I know that it is only a matter of time before one of my patients drops dead from this dangerous fad diet. As a doctor, I want to postpone the inevitable as long as possible.

Atkins advantage bars

atkins advantage bars

atkins advantage bars Though they are relatively new, many are trying the Atkins Advantage bars to see if they can make a difference. These are not really for those who are not following the Atkins way of life, but that does not mean they do not have some advantage for anyone else. They are not full of carbs so they will not be an instant energy boost. They will be, however, a way to stay full for a few hours. These are not something that seem to be accepted by everyone who lives the Atkins lifestyle, however.

Those who are in the induction stage of Atkins should probably skip these. The Atkins Advantage bars are marketed in some spots as being okay for those in induction, but there are some that argue that this is not the case, and because Dr. Atkins is no longer running the company, they don’t have as much faith in the name. These bars are good, but they may not be good for the first two week of the program. The number of carbs the first two weeks is 20 each day, and this might easily put someone over with the wrong type of carbs.

The Atkins Advantage bars will be good later in the diet however, and might be a very handy thing to have around. Those who are going through ongoing weight loss should make sure they know that all of the ingredients are okay with their particular step up the carb ladder. Those who leave induction and go to ongoing weight loss usually add a small amount of carbs as they go along, and they are usually very specific carbs. Anyone wanting to add the Atkins Advantage bars should make sure these are in line with where they are in adding back some carbs.

These might be something to have handy when going away or simply going to work. The Atkins Advantage bars will serve as a great snack (if you like the taste) and will keep someone from feeling hungry all day long. However, those following Atkins won’t have those sharp hunger pains very often, but it is always nice to have something in reach when it comes time to eat and it’s just not possible to have a meal as needed. If not following Atkins, these might have more calories than someone wants to have, but then again, if they fill a person up, they might be saving calories in the end.

Obese people

obese people

Any fool can see that our great nation is in trouble. Just to be clear, I'm not addressing wars or global politics. Think more along the lines of general health. You know, the kind you actually have control over. These days our country is flooded with obese people. Why is this? Does anyone even have to ask this question? Folks want instant gratification.

They prefer to chow-down on fast food during their lunch break, and veg-out on the sofa for an evening in front of the "boob tube." Sounds pretty cliche, I know. So, does it take place in your house? Take a look around at your family. What kind of shape are they in? I don't know about you, but I refuse to conform to this lethargic state of convenience.

Toss your poor eating habits out the window. It's high time you tackled a new and healthier diet plan. What is a diet anyway? Well, a diet only means that you eat. Whether it consists of fast food or carrots, it's still a diet. However, not all diets are created equal. To avoid becoming one of the countless obese people, you need to adopt a nutritious, low-fat diet. This should consist of lean meats, plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, and whole grain products such as wheat bread and brown rice. And be sure you don't forget the water. This is a crucial aspect. Coffee and soft drinks are treats. They should in no way be consumed several times a day.

If you want a cup of java in the morning, fine; but stop right there. You don't need 4 or 7 cups throughout the day. Focus on water primarily. 100 percent juice beverages and soy milk are ideal as well. Keep that body hydrated. Portion is also an issue here in the states. Most obese people are totally confused about what a single portion is. Read the nutrition charts on product packaging. Too many people consume three servings or more at one time. Our bodies cannot deal with all those calories and fat; therefore they get stored and you get more obese. Eat smaller portions and more meals instead.

What about exercise? Well obviously a fitness regimen is imperative if you plan on staying physically fit and healthy. All obese people need to start with cardio. Work on burning calories and dropping pounds before you add weight training to the routine. This way you won't be confused by the scale readings. Get started with your healthier way of life today.

Low carb diets

low carb diets

Though low carb diets are not as popular as they once were, there are many who are still using them, or trying them for the first time. They are much like any other diet though, and you can’t expect miracles. They do work exceptionally well for those who have insulin resistance and have problems with storing and using carbs. If you can eliminate carbohydrates from your diet, at least some of them, you might indeed have an easier time losing the extra weight. As with anything though, there are things you have to know about this type of diet.

You cannot eat a diet that has no carbohydrates what so ever. This is why many of these are called low carb diets instead of no-carb diets. You have to have some of these each day to function. Carbs are what your body uses as energy before it uses anything else. This instant energy is what you use for our basic functions, and you might find you feel very weak if you don’t have any. They are very hard to avoid though, and unless you are going to eat nothing by meat and eggs, you are going to get some anyway.

Low carb diets can be successful, but only if you almost make sure they are low fat and low calorie. You can’t eat an unlimited amount of non-carb foods and expect a low carb diet to work. You still have to watch your portions, and you still have to exercise. Until some magical pill is found, which is highly unlikely, you have to burn off what you eat and then some. Low calorie and exercise always go together towards healthy and permanent weight loss.

One important thing to remember about low carb diets is that it is not right for everyone. You have to talk to your doctor if you have more than thirty or forty pounds to lose to be sure you are not making a huge health mistake. If you have high blood pressure, or a heart condition, you want to be under a doctor’s supervision while you diet. Though low carb diets will work great for some, it might not work for you, and might even cause your health to deteriorate. Be smart about it. Losing weight is great for your health, but you have to have a way to do it that won’t further harm you.

Low carb diet

low carb diet

There have been many warnings that a low carb diet is not the best for anyone. I would beg to differ. Not because I can say I lost hundreds of pounds on one, but I do believe the science behind it. You can’t just stuff yourself with meat and think it’s all going to be okay though. The are certain medical conditions that warrant a drop in the amount of carbs that a person should have, and it would make sense that there are medical reasons why some should use this type of diet.

The most popular low carb diet is Atkins. They are all somewhat the same in theory, though they all recommend different amounts of carbs. The Atkins diet starts off with just 20 carbs per day for two weeks. This is tough, but many lose weight right off the bat. Some say it is water weight, but even then, that is a great incentive for someone to keep going and to stick with their low carb diet. The first few weeks of any diet are the hardest, so if you see weight loss, it might make it a whole lot easier.

Those with insulin resistance will really benefit from a low carb diet, but it is always a good idea to talk it over with a doctor before beginning. However, insulin resistance means that the body does not register the insulin it produces, and when it senses carbs, it produces more. This makes the pancreas work overtime, and in the end it will burn out and a person will have type 2 diabetes. The body also thinks something is wrong and stores all calories as fat, and weight gain can be substantial. There are many other smaller problems that can occur in the body as well, including infertility in women, a spike in testosterone, hair growing in odd places, and chronic feelings of fatigue.

When you remove many of the carbs by going on a low carb diet, this stops the vicious cycle of insulin production. Those with this problem often feel dizzy and have sugar spikes when eating carbs, and this type of diet will take those away within a few days. After a week, many who have started a low carb diet say that they feel better than they have in a long time. Those without insulin problems don’t really need this type of diet, but they can lose weight on it as well.

Losing weight fast

losing weight fast

Most Americans have similar personal goals. They want to in some way improve their appearance either by losing weight, gaining muscle tone, lower body fat index or improving the quality of their skin. Most people will name some type of personal appearance improvement need as a resolution that they make to themselves. Along with wanting to improve our personal experience we should also have a goal on patience. Most people do not achieve their goals to improve the way they look because they are not patient enough to achieve them. Most people are into losing weight fast and toning our muscles quickly. Long term solutions usually do not work this way. In losing weight fast the pounds usually reappear just as quickly as they went off because the fast weight loss is water weight not fat. The best way to lose weight and to keep it off is to make a life style change in the way food is prepared, the amount of food that is consumed and the way it is consumed.

Most people are finding that losing weight fast is a great motivator to begin with, but when the amount of weight lost each week slows down, which it always will, then the person becomes discouraged and returns to old eating habits. One way of staying motivated and feeling full is to eat several small meals throughout the day. By keeping the blood sugar level at an even pace and maintaining that full feeling people are less likely to cheat. Losing weight fast can also be dangerous for the heart and gall bladder. Several diet programs have had members report that in losing weight fast they have damaged the valves to their hearts and also have caused their gall bladders to become inflamed.

The bottom line to any weight loss is common sense, patience and moderation. People lose weight when they expend more calories than they take in. For example, if you eat four meals of three hundred calories each for a total of twelve hundred calories and you need twelve hundred calories to maintain your weight, you will not lose weight. However if you begin adding aerobic exercise to the mix, which burns extra calories as well as bumps up your metabolism, then you will begin to lost weight. If you decrease the calories and increase the activity losing weight fast will be the end result. Choosing low carbs, low fats or low proteins depends upon what you like. The more you enjoy the foods you are eating to lose weight the better the chances that you will remain on the diet.

Exercise to lose weight

exercise to lose weight

If you want to lose weight, the best way is to increase activity levels and eat a healthier diet. Many people are intimidated by starting an exercise program so they try lots of fad diets instead, and never reach their weight loss goals. Exercise is the best way to lose those unwanted pounds and keep them off for good. According to many reliable sources, there are numerous health benefits associated with regular exercise including increasing the efficiency of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems.

Exercise releases chemicals in the brain called endorphins, which improve mood and contribute to a feeling of well being. The risk for several diseases like heart disease, adult onset diabetes, high blood pressure, breast cancer, osteoporosis, and colon cancer is also reduced. Mental illnesses like depression and anxiety can also be treated with regular exercise to lose weight.

Physical activity burns calories, so the more you do, the more calories you’ll burn. Strength training builds muscle by reducing amount of body fat, and muscle burns more calories than fat, so what you eat is processed more efficiently. Exercise to lose weight by increasing metabolic rate, which remains elevated for some time after activity is stopped.

Once you start losing weight, you may come to a plateau where you cannot seem to lose any more, even though you are maintaining your diet and exercise schedule. This is quite common, and the best way to succeed at breaking through this plateau is to increase your level of physical activity. You’ll notice the difference soon enough, which will keep your motivation high and your diet and exercise program on track.

You’ll also sleep better, but don’t exercise too close to bedtime because you may not be able to get to sleep right away. Exercise to lose weight and have fun in the meantime. Regular physical activity is good for the body and the soul. You’ll sleep better and feel better with as little as twenty to thirty minutes three times a week.

There are lots of different types of aerobic and strength training exercises you can do in the privacy of your own home, or at the local gym, the choice is up to you. Just do it! Walk, jog, run, lift weights, do yoga, Tai Bo, and Pilates. Be creative, and take a few classes to exercise to lose weight fast. For more advice on how to exercise to lose weight, go online and check out the numerous resources available to help you reach your weight loss goals.

Atkins diet information

atkins diet information

atkins diet information Though the Atkins diet craze has died down somewhat, there are still many people who want to try it. Though I am not big on fad diets, this is one that I used with some success. I had to quit using it though, because the Atkins diet information I was finding was a bit scary to me. Though many of the foods on the diet are ones that people love to eat, it really isn’t that great for your heart. That doesn’t mean you can’t use it, but you should really talk to a doctor before you do.

You should find all of the Atkins diet information you can find before you begin. You don’t want to start the diet on what you think you know. If you have a heart condition, you really have to watch what you eat, and some of the foods on this diet are not good for the heart. I would not suggest that anyone use this diet if they have heart disease in their family, and some of the Atkins diet information that you find will tell you just that. Your doctor can tell you more about it, and why this diet might not be for you.

You can find Atkins diet information in many places, but if you read the books you will find what you need. You should know that there are many who think this diet is all about eating fatty steaks, bacon and eggs, but your common sense should tell you that this is not good for you. I know the diet worked for me before I quit using it, so there is something to the claims that it works, but it also is very iffy on the nutritional side. When looking for Atkins diet information, make sure you are getting real health information, and not just one person’s view of it.

This diet goes in stages, and once you get past the first stage, you are going to be eating a great variety of food, but in the beginning you are going to be pretty limited. What many leave out when talking about Atkins diet information is that you really do have to watch your portions. Many think that they can just eat the right foods, but they don’t have to watch the portion size, and they can eat whenever. You can never lose anything if you are taking in too many calories. This holds true for any and all diets.

Dieting and that 'Magic' Pill

Dieting and Magic Pill

Sorry to burst your bubble but there isn't a Magic Pill out there that sheds the fat and gives you that body builder look. In your search for that look you had when you were in high school, bet you have purchased enough diet aides to stock your own store. The fact of the matter is, the only way to lose that excess weight you have is to combine proper diet with exercise.

Ever wonder why you can lose weight from those pills you buy at the drug store or on ebay but always seem to gain it back and sometimes gain back a few more pounds then you had before? It's simple….fat cells have a memory. They are a survival tool that God gave you for those times when fasting is forced on you and not a choice.

When you take in food your body uses what it needs so it can function. What it doesn't use gets stored as fat to be used at a later date. If you are inactive (couch potato) then you will store more fat then those people that are active.

Ok so now you decided to put down the television remote and start exercising. Before you do that you first need to talk to your primary care physician. Make sure they know what you plan to do, they'll let you know what you can and should do for exercise and what your caloric intake should be.

The goal here is to balance your daily exercise with the amount of food you are eating. To much of the wrong stuff and not enough activity to burn it is just like being on a treadmill, you move but don't go anywhere.

As you diet and exercise you aren't only losing weight and getting fit, you are also reprogramming your fat cells. When they shrink up from using the fat they stored they will send signals to your brain that you are starving. You may get the feeling that you're hungry, well that's what the fat cells are transmitting because that's their main function to protect against starvation.

By eating a well balanced diet and daily activity they soon learn that you aren't starving and go about their merry way only storing what small amount is left for them. So the thought that a pill can fix your problem is nothing more then instant gratification with short term results.

Go for the long term weight loss goal at a workable and steady pace and you won't just shed those pounds but also look and feel younger.

Maintaining Your Energy Level while Dieting

Energy Level

For some people being on a diet means being tired and lethargic. It's times like these that some people may be more likely to reach for chips, chocolate or soda. However, these types of foods are absorbed so quickly by the body that it causes your body to think that it has run out of fuel soon after eating them and it's not long before you begin to crave more of these snacks again. Often these foods offer a quick rush of energy; however they don't help the body deal with the cause of energy deprivation.

The key, therefore, in dealing with the lack of energy that many people experience when they are dieting is to provide the body with all of the right elements needed to support the body and give it the energy that it needs.

Exercising For Energy

Surprisingly as it might seem, exercise helps to give the body energy by providing you with more stamina for your activities. Additionally, the increased blood flow to your brain which exercising provides helps you to relieve stress and fatigue.

Additionally, exercise also:

- Burns fat

- Helps your body deal with stress

- Lowers Cholesterol

- Lowers high blood pressure

- Increases your energy level

- Reduces your chances of cancer and heart disease

Even simple exercise such as walking is beneficial. A 1995 study indicates that just walking twice around a suburban block a few times per week is enough to make a significant difference in your life. However, exercise which increases the heart rate such as hiking, skiing, swimming, jogging, and bicycling should also be included in your routine.

Eating For Energy

Because of the reduced food intake during a diet, many people experience a lack of energy. However, it doesn’t have to be that way. Long lasting energy can be achieved through careful selection of the right foods. To maintain your energy during your diet, try to eat 3 well-balanced and nutritious meals a day which include the following:

- Wholegrain cereals, brown rice and oats

- Fresh vegetables including broccoli, zucchini, cabbage, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and beans

- Fresh fruit

- Soy foods

- Fresh herbs including mint, basil, dill, thyme, and parsley

- Fish, particularly oily fish such as Salmon, Mackerel and Sardines

- Lean meats and poultry

- Nuts and seeds including a small amount of almonds, walnuts sunflower and sesame seeds

- Sea vegetables including wakame, nori and arame which can be purchased at your local health food store

Additionally, taking a supplement which contains Vitamin B helps the body to turn food into energy and to metabolize properly.

Sleeping For Energy

Getting a good night’s sleep each night is also a way to increase your energy level. Deep, restful sleep helps your body to recover from your activities and revitalize it for the next day. A lack of sleep on the other hand interferes with your mental abilities including your memory and drastically depletes your energy level. If you have trouble sleeping check out a few natural herbal sedatives such as Valerian, Passion Flower and Hops to get you back on track.

Why people are interested in spa treatments?

We only have to see the number of spa centers that are opening to understand that there is a real interest for these treatments. This tendency has been caused by various factors. First reason is that the increased competition among different spa centers are causing prices to go down. This fall in prices is causing the treatments to be affordable to a wider market. Another factor that has led to this situation is that people are now sensitized to the benefits of spa treatments. The reason behind this is that people are viewing spa as a treatment against stress. If you want to have a spa at home there are also some portable models that are available. This French article ‘spa portable’ should be useful to you as it speaks more on this topic. Quick weight loss diet

quick weight loss diet
Is any weight loss diet really easy? Probably not. Enter the market for weight loss diets and you will be bombarded with information about different kinds of diets

The news about the obesity problems in the world today can be somewhat shocking, and can scare people into making poor choices. Some think they can find a quick weight loss diet that will allow them to shed the pounds for a better body and great health. However, these rarely work, and that is because the body can not survive on these forever, and once someone stops such a diet, they quickly gain back what they lost, and sometimes they gain more. Instead, a slower weight loss plan is better.

As Americans scramble for fat burners, rapid weight loss diets and other quick fix ideas to lose weight, the obesity epidemic continues to get worse.

The quick weight loss diet often works, but only for a short time. If someone is planning to fit into a dress for a special event, this is a good way to lose a few pounds. However, they should know they will gain them back once they eat normally again. The best weight loss endeavor is one that lasts a lifetime. This means that a diet is something that works with the body, and is then something that can easily be followed after the extra weight is gone. Though experts fight about what the best plan for losing weight really is, they do agree that going back to old eating habits is why so many fail in the end.

You have to make yourself a diet. Whether it's a weight gain diet, or a weight loss diet, you have to get organized.

If you take on a quick weight loss diet, make sure you monitor your health, and make sure you learn from the foods that you are eating. You should learn from the diet so that you know what to eat once you are off of it. Though some have great success with the diets that give prepackaged foods, they fail to keep the weight off because they don't know how to cook for themselves when they stop buying the meals. This is why you should choose a quick weight loss diet that allows you to learn good habits as you go along.

One of the most challenging aspects of dieting is finding a good low carb breakfast to start off the day.

Sometimes, people think that the quick weight loss diet works because they lose a lot in the first week. What they don't realize is that half of that weight is usually water weight. It's good, but it's not true fat. Most of the time, people can not lose more than one or two pounds of true fat a week. However, if you find the quick weight loss diet is working for you, and your doctor sees no ill effects on your health, you can continue. Just remember that you should pick up the good habits and keep them, long after you have stopped losing and are trying to maintain your new figure.

Nutritional supplements

nutritional supplements
Antiaging nutritional supplements treatment has been known to be effective in deterring the aging process

Nutritional supplements are a subject of some controversy among medical professionals. Some feel that a proper diet is all that's needed to keep you healthy, while others see a legitimate case for the judicious use of vitamin and mineral supplements. Let's take a look at some of the reasons you may want to add nutritional supplements to your healthy eating plan.

The commercial vegetable grower may not practice crop rotation, growing his green beans in the same location year after year. This causes soil depletion, robbing the crop of many valuable nutrients. The green bean that ends up on your dinner plate may not contain the vitamins and minerals a nutritional table leads you to expect. Many vitamins and minerals work in concert. If one is missing, another partner nutrient in the food may not be absorbed. There you have one case begging for nutritional supplements.

When the human body is spending more energy in work and heat than it is gaining from food or other nutritional supplements, it will catabolise stored reserves of fat or muscle

As we age, certain nutrients become more difficult for our bodies to assimilate. This is particularly true of the B vitamins. Children and teens require some nutrients in greater amounts than adults. Calcium, magnesium and zinc are especially important, as are vitamin A, C and E. Moreover, calcium, magnesium and zinc must be in specific ratios to do their jobs and many processed foods skew these ratios or even eliminate them, rendering them virtually useless. The teenager's bane of skin blemishes is often due to inadequate amounts of vitamins A, C and E. People with poor night vision usually suffer from a lack of vitamin A. Do you bruise easily? Perhaps a lack of vitamin D is the culprit.

Certain diseases and health conditions can be partially or completely remedied with proper nutritional supplements. For example, some women are more prone to yeast infections than others. Causes may be genetic or dietary. Yeast feeds on sugar, so excessive sugar intake may promote these infections. At the same time, vitamin K helps keep the bacteria candiasis in check with a proper balance of 'good' and 'bad' bacteria. Therefore, some women may benefit from nutritional supplements of vitamin K.

It's important to note that nutritional supplements are not all equally effective. Often, the cheaper supplements are not in a form that's readily absorbed or may even have undesirable side effects. Vitamin C made from rose hips are more readily absorbed and does not irritate your stomach like vitamin C derived from ascorbic acid. There's much to know when it comes to choosing the right nutritional supplements. It's a good idea to consult with a knowledgeable person at your local health food store or visit an online vendor of supplements to be sure you're getting a product your body can use.

Nutritional supplements can be a boon to your health when properly chosen and applied. Your family physician can provide valuable information on supplements as they may relate to your specific conditions. Do yourself a favor and look into the possible benefits for you and your family. To your good health!

Nutritional supplements

nutritional supplements
Antiaging nutritional supplements treatment has been known to be effective in deterring the aging process

Taking the right nutritional supplements can make a big difference. A lot of people think that all nutritional health supplements are good for everyone. After all, they are marketed in a pretty broad way. Basically, if a company can get you to buy its nutritional vitamin supplements, it will. Nonetheless, a lot of them have very specific uses. Don't just take them indiscriminately!

Some nutritional supplements are good for everyone. For example, everyone should take a multivitamin every day. Although multivitamins are no substitute for a good diet, they do help to make double sure that you are getting all the nutrients that you need. Not every nutritional supplement on the shelf is of equal quality, so make sure that you get one from a reputable source. After all, it is not just enough to get the vitamins. Some forms are easier for your body to absorb than others. If you get the wrong form of vitamin supplement, it will all wash right through your system. You won't get any gain at all from cheap nutritional supplements that aren't made for high absorption.

When the human body is spending more energy in work and heat than it is gaining from food or other nutritional supplements, it will catabolise stored reserves of fat or muscle

The most popular nutrition supplements are meant for all around health. Some of the things they are good for are enhancing the immune system, mental functioning, and other things like that. Some of these address particular problems, such as chronic respiratory issues, digestive problems, or age-related problems. Most of these nutritional supplements can be taken just as directed, although it is ideal to have the advice of a health care professional. Nonetheless, just going to the store and ask them what nutritional supplements they recommend can really help you to get on the right track.

Of course, other nutritional supplements are meant for more athletic uses. A lot of them are meant for bodybuilding and exercise. When I first started exercising, I was skeptical of this kind of supplement. After all, I figure that exercising and getting good nutrition alone were enough to keep me lean, mean, fit, and strong. Although I got pretty good results from my exercises, one of my friends convinced me to try some bodybuilding supplements after awhile. I was really amazed by the difference. They helped me bulk up much quicker, and I had more energy than ever. I even got a metabolism aid to speed up my weight loss. Although I felt a bit giddy from it, it really did the trick. I was shedding pounds like you would not believe!

Low carb recipes

low carb recipes
In order to make sure that your weight reduction plan is effective and healthy, you really want to look to low fat low carb recipes for your daily eating

I was surprised when I first found out how many low carb recipes that were. You see, I have been having a huge amount of trouble losing weight. I have tried cooking with low calorie recipes, but they never filled me up. I hated being hungry of the time. You see, I grew up without enough to eat all the time. As a result, I was pretty addicted to food. I munched whenever I felt uncomfortable. A low calorie diet just wasn't going to work for me. That is why I started looking at a low carb diet recipe book.

The Low Carb Revolution was a one-hour documentary television special on the Atkins diet. It described how this diet works, had success stories, and presented some recipes.

If you are not familiar with low carbohydrate recipes, you probably should be. After all, believe it or not you cook them every day! A steak and onions? Perfectly reasonable low carb recipe. What about eggs and bacon? Just the same! There are low carb meals everywhere if you just look for them. Unfortunately, healthy low carb recipes are little more difficult. You see, eating steaks, eggs, and bacon every day isn't exactly the best thing for your health. Fortunately, there are plenty of low carb recipes that are healthy for you.

My favorite low carb recipe is salad. It is easy to make a low carbohydrate salad. As a matter of fact, as long as you don't add potatoes or other starchy vegetables to it, you are almost guaranteed that it is low in carbohydrates. You can add anything you want to it - meat, avocados, nuts, vegetables - and it will stay low in carbohydrates. Adding a little bit of fat on to your salad isn't so bad for you as long as it isn't combined with high carbohydrate food.

We even tried doing low carb recipes for the wedding. We had a wedding planner who was skilled in putting together alternative sorts of weddings. They could cater for vegetarian recipes, vegans, Kosher dining, and everything else. We talked about doing low carb recipes, but in the end we decided against it. After all, a wedding is such a special day. You only have it once - at least you hope you will only have it once - so there is no point in wasting that day eating healthy food. Bring on the steak and wedding cake! You can start dieting again after the honeymoon. In the mean time, it is better to just enjoy yourself. After all, you only live once.

Low carb diets

low carb diet plan

A few years ago my husband and I decided that we both needed to lose a few pounds. I have struggled with my weight my entire life, but my husband has only started to add a few pounds as he reached middle age. I have been on diets with girlfriends and co-workers, but I thought it may be helpful to be on a diet with the person I live with. I thought that this would help keep me focused and on track.

At the time we decided to go on this weight loss quest the rage was low carb diets. We both like protein foods so we decided that we would give this a try. I knew that my husband would not be interested in counting calories or exchanging points that are required in other diets. Eating meats, cheese, eggs and greens seemed like something he could manage easily. We bought a book on low carb diets by Dr Atkins and started our change in live style. The first two weeks on low carb diets, like most diets, is quite restrictive. The one thing I found different with this diet plan however is that I was not hungry. With over diet plans I found that I was watching the clock until I could have my next snack. With low carb diets you can have an extra string cheese stick or peel a boil egg if you are feeling hungry.

In the first month my husband lost twelve pounds and I lost eight. We found that we were feeling good and were very motivated to continue dieting because we were seeing results. Our breakfasts consisted of eggs, poached, boiled or fried. I found some great tasting low carbohydrate tortias that we wrapped our eggs in. For lunch I would have a chef salad with blue cheese dressing and for dinner we would have some type of protein, either fish, beef, pork or chicken and green leafy vegetables as well as cooked green vegetables. We found we liked experimenting with different cheeses that we would have for dessert. In the low carb diets book there were several recipes. I made the low carb cheese cake and we found that we loved it. We also found some flat bread that was low in carbs and very high in fiber. This was great to eat with our dessert cheeses.

Entertaining was not difficult to do when we were on the low carb diets. We would grill steaks and make a huge salad. We bought a variety of cheeses to serve with flat bread and then serve cheese cake for dessert. Our guests had no idea that they were eating our diet foods. After three months my husband reached his goal weight and started adding a few more carbs to his diet. I stayed on the diet six months to reach my goal. We both felt great and looked better.

Female Body Building

female body building
A good body building workout may seem challenging at first, but will reward you by making you look and feel great.

If you are trying to lose weight, you may have toyed with the idea of female body building. You should know that if you want to lose inches, body building is indeed something that you should look into, even though you may have fears about what is going to happen. For the most part, you are not going to look like the Hulk once you are done, and you will wonder why you didn't start working out like this earlier in your life.

A healthy diet and proper exercise can put an end to your unhealthy lifestyle. In particular, a regular bodybuilding workout can improve your appearance and also improve your general level of health.

The more you work out with weights, the more muscles you will have on your body. You aren't going to bulk up when doing female body building, at least, not in the way you might be thinking. You will gain muscles, but you won't look like an amazon. Your muscles will be lean muscle and you will burn more calories when you do aerobic workouts. Muscles are lean, and you will get a lean look once you start female body building workouts. You don't have to bench press four hundred pounds to get lean; you can easily get results with five or ten pounds weights when you start female body building.

Protein is the building block for muscle. Without protein, do not even bother going to the gym.

Many women shy away from female body building because they think that muscles will make them look masculine. When you go to a gym to enquire about female body building, you have to make sure you let the personal trainer you are working with know what your goals are. If you want to shape up and lose pounds, they will know what to do to help you get started. If you want to look like a body builder, however, they may not be able to help you.

Those who use female body building to look more like male weight lifters have to work really hard to get their muscles to look like that. Women are not genetically built to make muscles that big. Those ladies have to follow a strict diet and they usually have to take supplements to even begin looking like that. Female body building can be a huge boost no matter what your goals are, and don't forget that you will still look like a woman if that is what your goal is. In most cases, women who bulk up like men have to take steroids to do it, and we all know how dangerous they may be. Don't get too worked up about it, just work out and see if it is right for you. You may find that you are more toned and sleeker than you ever thought you could be.

Supplements For Calcium

Throughout your life, calcium will prove to be very important. For children, calcium helps with the growth of teeth and bones, and it prevents blood clots. With adults, calcium helps to prevent osteoporosis. If you are using chewable calcium supplements, then you should make sure that you chew the pills thoroughly before you swallow. If you take calcium supplements in large doses, you may experience constipation, vomiting, nausea, a loss of appetite, a dry mouth, and a loss of appetite. Although anyone can take calcium supplements, there are rare cases in which they may cause you side effects. If you've been having problems with your bones or just looking to keep your bones healthy, calcium supplements are what you need. Effective weight loss

Finding effective weight loss can be difficult. Sure, you can spend your life at the gym, obsessively exercising ends dieting every moment of the day to lose 10 pounds in a couple months, but who wants to do that? What I want is safe and effective weight loss, preferably in pill form. I know that rapid weight loss is possible. I had a friend who shed 20 pounds of body fat loss in two months. Unfortunately, the effective wieght loss pills that he used have been outlawed since then. I say that this is a reasonable risk for effective weight loss. Nowadays, it seems like there is no way to find good information about which pills provide effective weight loss. I have been using weight loss pills for almost 2 years now, and none of them helped me lose anything. I have yet to find any effective weight loss pills in fact. There's just no simple, effective way to lose weight. I hate exercising, and I despise dieting, but if this is the only thing that works, I have no choice.
