When you're coming up with exercises to lose weight, one type of exercise you're probably going to be incorporating into your plan is cardio exercise. Cardio, or aerobic, exercise is the kind that increases your heart rate and makes you breathe faster. When this happens you'll start burning off your body fat.

How Long Should You Exercise For?

It's generally agreed that cardio exercise works best when you do it for periods of at least ten minutes at a time. It's important to make sure you do get out of breath during this time, and ideally you'll do this kind of exercise a few times a day.

So What Counts As Cardio Exercise?

The good thing about exercises to lose weight is that you will generally already be getting exercise from your daily routine. This is good for people who have set a fitness goal and are finding it hard to fit into their lifestyle - you may just find that doing a few more of the things you already do can add to your activity levels!

More Vigorous Activities

It will help if you can eventually build up to more vigorous exercises to lose weight - however many of us will need to gradually build up to these over time. Some of the more vigorous activities include swimming, jogging and riding a bike on hills.

The benefit of these is that they really get you breathing faster, and your heart rate will go up higher. You'll be really pushing your body to lose weight.
